Bhatinda is named after 1800 years old fort situated on a high ancient mound. The bricks used here date back to Kushan period. The Gurudwara in the fort commemorates the visit of GuruGobindSinghJi.

Bathinda is a leading railway junction. The American International firm PEPSI is processing horticulture products grown here. Home of Guru Nanak thermal plant, a fertilizer factory, a milk plant, India's largest cantonment, the foundation stone of an oil refinery has been laid here by the Prime Minister of India.
