Brahmaputra,
one of the mighty rivers of the world has its origin in the sacred
mountains of Mansarovar, Called theTsangpo in Tibet it runs through
the high Tibetian plateau before taking a south ward turn to enter
the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as the Siang. Here it gushes
through an intricate gorge flanked by snow capped peaks, verdant
hills and terraced fields of paddy. Sometimes placid, sometimes
raging with eddies, whirlpools, fall and rapids it breaks from the
hills at Pasighat and is joined by the Dibang and the Lohit to form
the Brahmaputra - the only large male river in Indian mythology.
The mighty river continues its journey through the plains of Assam,
merging with the Ganges in Bangladesh to form the Sunderbans, the
largest delta in the world.
The Brahmaputra Darshan pays homage to a river which is the life
giver to the people to the North East India. The festival also showcases
Arunachal, a very beautiful state which till now remains largely
unexplored and mysterious.
The state of Arunachal Pradesh rises from the steamy plains of the
Brahmaputra valley to the dizzy snows of the Eastern Himalayas.
Dong, a high village in the mountains of the Lohit is the first
to catch the rays of the sun -justifying the name "Arunachal"
- the land of the dawn lit mountains. Inhabited by numerous tribes,
each with its own dress, dances, trabitions and social systems,
Arunachal is a cultural mosaic. Raft down the mighty Siang, catch
the legendry Mahsheer in the gentler tributaries, bird watch in
the riverine D.
The darshan starts with the mixing of the waters of the great rivers,
symbolising the essential unity of the Indian culture. The river
site will reveberate with the chanting of Mantras against a backdrop
of the colourful tribal dances of the Siang valley.
