Institute of Himalayan Geology:
Recorded as the best centre on Himalayas Geology, the institute
maintains a museum displaying the geological diversity of the sub-continent.

Forest Research Institute (FRI):
Set in 1914 by the British, FRI is undoubtedly one of the forest
institute of forest services recognised globally maintaining six
museums, covering various disciplines in forest maintenance and
management. It is set in fine botanical gardens and forests surrounding
the impressive architecture of the building with the Himalaya providing
a spectacular backdrop. From Clock Tower tempos (Vikram) are available
to take to the HRI gate. Entry is free and the Institute is open
from Monday to Friday.

Survey of India:
Founded in 1767, the Survey of India has its headquarters, four
kms off Rajpur road. The Surveyor Generals of this premier institute
included Sir George Everest. The place is open from 1000 -1700 hrs
on weekdays. One can buy maps from the map shop here - 747051.
Tapkeshwar Temple:
Located in the cantonment area in Garhi, 5 kms from Dehradun city
is lapkeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to a legend,
the warrior-sage Dronacharya had meditated on the banks of river
Tons, which traversed through a deep gorge during Dwaparyug. A remarkable
feature of this cave temple is the natural formation of two Shivlings-includin
the the one Dronacharya worshipped. It is beside a stream, which
when flowing is directed onto the Lingam. The temple is the site
of an important festival held here on Shivaratri Day (usually in

Sahastradhara:
14 km from Dehradun, noted for its natural beauty &C medicinal
properties, Sahastradhara is a very popular picnic & entertainment
spot. These cold sulphur springs located east of Dehradun are worth
a visit.
Other places to visit include, Lakshman Sidh Temple (12km), Robbers
Cave (8km), Tapovan (6km), Maisi Deer Park (IOkm), are within easy
rcdch and arc popular picnic spots.
