Like the Mughals, the Europeans too saw tremendous potential in
Gujarat. The first European invaders were the Portuguese who set
up great 16th century forts at Daman, their enclave in south Gujarat,
and Diu offshore from Saurashtra
The Mughals conquered
Ahmedabad in the 1 century, it briefly passed to the Marathas and
finall) the British made it a province, each phase saw the addition
