Kausani
is a dream. The vantage point for a breathtaking view of the Nanda
Devi mountainrange,amidst dense pine forests. You can feel the proximity
of the snowy Himalayan peaks Trishul, Panchchuli, Nanda Ghunti and
Chaukhamba from here and immerse yourself into the scenic grandeur.
Mahatma Gandhi spent sometime here, while he was writing the book
'Anashakti Yoga', a commentary on Bhagwat Gita. The 'Anashakti Ashram'
was founded here by his disciple Sarla Ben (Katherine Heilemen).
From an impressive height of 1,890 mtrs., the Himalaya is unbound
here. Look below and you'll see the Gomti river rushing into the
Katyuni valley.
Kausani is also the birthplace of famous Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan
Pant (Nirala), who wrote some memorable poems in the praise of this
paradise on earth.
How To Reach There
The nearest airpot is Pantnagar, (177 kms). You can hire a taxi
from Pantnagar to reach Kausani. The nearest railhead is kathgodam
(103 kms.). A good network of roads connect Kausani. The roads remain
open round the year.
Almora is 50 kms away. Ranikhet is 70 kms, ninital 120 kms, and
Bageshwar is at a distance of 39 kms.
Places of Interest
Kausani is a calm and idyllic resort, far from the maddening crowd.
Just walk down the hills amidst dense forests. Trek around to reach
the highest points of the hills, Pinnath (5 kms )Burapinnath (5.5
kms) and Bhatkot (12 kms). Enjoy the relaxing day, get wonderstruck
by the starry nights.
Chaukori
87 kms from Kausani, a picturesque tourist spot, amidst mighty Himalayn
peaks.
Anashakti Ashram
Gandhi stayed here. His spinning wheels (Charkha) and other memorabilia
are kept here. There is a small library with a study room, where
you can find books on Gandhian philosophy. A rest house offers Spartan
accommodation.

Bageshwar
An important center of Shiva worship, at a distance of 39 kms. According
to the Hindu scriptures, the sage Markandeya lived here. Spent many
years, worshipping Lord Shiva. This is also the place from where
you can start your journey towards Pindari, Sunderdunga and Kafniglaciers.
Baijnath
Just below Kausani, at the height 1,126 mtrs. Baijnath has the famous
temple complex, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
It's also a place of major archeological importance, also known
for it's exquisite architectural value.
LaKhudiyar
Known for it's caves and rock paintings. A pre-historic site in
the Himalayas.
