What to See
Govind Dev Temple
Built by Raja Man Singh of Jaipur in 1590, the temple is a testimony
of the architectural splendour of medieval India.
Rangaji Temple
Vrindavan's longest temple, it was constructed in 1851 by Seth Govind
Das Radha Krishna at a cost of Rs. 4.5 million.
Madan Mohan Temple
Situated near Kali Ghat, it is believed to have been built by Kapur
Ram Das of Multan
Gokul
It
was in Yashoda Maiya's home at Kokul that Nand Gopal was sheltered
in secrecy to escape the wrath of the tyrant Kansa. Thronged by
Pilgrims, particualrly during Janmashtami & Annakut festivals.The
Trinvat Mela is held on the fourth day of the dark half on Kartik
month.
Gokul is also associated with Saint Vallabhacharya
who lived here for many years. The most important temple is that
of Gokul Nath ji. Located 16 kms south east of Mathura & connected
by metalled road, Gokul is on the bank of river Yamuna.
Mahavan
On the left bank of Yamuna & 18 kms from Mathura, Mahavan is
believed to have cradled Lord Krishna. Shrines of interest include
the temple dedicated to Mathura Nath ji. ' Assi Khambha ' ( eighty
pillars ) depicts contemporary Buddhist art & sculpture.
Baldev
20 kms from Mathura, the town is named after the elder brother of
Lord Krishna. A temple dedicated to Baldev stands in the centre
of the town. two annual melas attracts thousands of pilgrims.
Goverdhan

kms from Mathura along the road to deeg. In Hindu mythology, Lord
Krishna is said to have held aloft Giriraj on his finger for 7 days
& nights to protect the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra
who sent down thunder & rain.
On the summit stands a temple built by Vallabhacharya in 1520 A.D.
Goverdhan is dotted by several temples & a large tank known
as Mansi Ganga, purported to have been rebuilt by Raja Man Singh
during the region of Emperor Akbar.
Nandgaon
The house of Lord Krishna's foster father Nand, in whose memory
stands a spacious temple, probably built by Rup Singh in the 19
th century. A little beyond is Pan Sarovar, one of the four most
celebrated lakes in Braj. As cowherd, Lord Krishna used to herd
his cows for watreing here.
Barsana
The birthplace of Radha, Barsana was originally known as Brahmasarin.
The four prominent hill peaks, symbolic of four faced divinity,
are adorned by temples in reverance of Ladliji ( Radha ), meaning
the beloved. Situated 21 kms to the north of Goverdhan.
A great watre tank, Prem Sarovar, is mythologically attributed to
have been the first meeting place of Radha & Krishna.
