Raipur
is the capital city of Chattisgarh. The town of Raipur has been
in existance since 9th century, the old sites & the ruins of
the fort can be seen inhe southern part of the city. Modern Raipur,
however, was founded by the King Rama Chandra in the last quarter
of the 14th c. A.D. & is now the capital of the Chattisgarh.

Burha Talab
The city has many tanks out of which the Burha Talab is the largest
lake & its beauty is enhanced by the existance of an island
with gardens & trees in its midst.
Dudhadari Temple
Outside the Burha Talab stands 500 yearsold Dudhadari temple dedicated
to Rama with elabiorate carvings.
Mahant Ghasi Memorial Museum
This museum is known for its collection of antiquarian finds like
inscriptions, images, sculptures,coins etc. & also things of
natural history & anthropology.

Arang ( 34 kms )
The city of temples, Arang is situated on the Raipur- Sambalpur
highways. One of the place is the 11th century Bhandewal Jain temple.
Apart from this, some of the other temples are Baaghdewal, Mahmaya,
Danteshwari & Jain temples.
Rajim ( 46 kms )
There is a confluence of three rivers namely the Mahanandi, the
Pairi & the Sondhur. Kuleshwar Mahadev, Rajiv Lochan & rajeshwar
are the templs of the 7th to 11thcentry A.D. that still stands here.
In the Rajiv Lochan temple there is a four armed idol of Lord Vishnu.
Sirpur ( 88 kms )
The old name of the Sirpur was Sripur. It used to be the capital
of the southern Kosal in the 5th & 6th century. In the 7th century
Heuin Tsang visited this place. The Laxman temple that was built
here in the 6th century AD. was the first of its kind to be built
with bricks in India. The temple was built by the widow of Somvanshi
King Harsh Gupta Queen Basata. Similarly there are temples depicting
the life style of Somvanshi dynasty. The place also has Buddha Maths
& Vihars. Every year during Shivratri a three day fair is organised
at the place.
