T he
region of Godwad lies on the south-western border of Rajasthan and
is still a largely unspoilt area. The presence of the undulating
Aravalis on one side and semi-arid plains on the other makes this
area even more interesting.
Mount Abu, the only hill-station of Rajasthan, is located here.
An important Jain pilgrimage centre, it is also very popular with
holiday-makers and honeymooners. Mount Abu has good rainfall which
is responsible for its rich vegetation. The flowering trees and
shrubs make this region a nature-lover's paradise. The world famous
Dilwara Jain temples are situated in Mount. Abu.
Not very far from Mount Abu are the famed Jain temples of Ranakpur.
Built in the 15th century, these temples are very well preserved
and attract thousands of tourists every year.
Pali and Jalor have old forts and stepwells which are worth a visit.
Several temples and historical sites can be found in this region.
Mount Abu reverberates with festivity in June every year when the
Summer Festival is celebrated. Folk music and dances at this lively
event are pleasant and elating.
